ready

well, i didn't think it was possible, but i'm officially ready for the market this weekend.

i flew in last night, did a quick grocery shop & then prepped til midnight. got up this morning & headed to the market. i emptied my freezer before i left so i defrosted & reloaded that. then it was a few more grocery stops & i zoomed back home to start work. it's now 11:45 & i just sat down...it's actually a bit earlier than i was expecting.

clearly there was no time to put together any frozen food, but the salads & all the baking are ready to go. the salads this week are:

broccoli - double smoked bacon, red onion, red pepper, sunflower seeds, cranberries & almonds
potato - parsley, dill, dijon, cucumbers, celery, radishes, green beans & green onions
sweet potato - lime, cilantro, chipotle, green onions, avocados & bell peppers

in the freezer, i don't have a whole lot (!!!) but i'll work my tail off next week to restock. as of right now i only have shepherd's pie, moroccan meatballs & mediterranean vegetable ragu in the large size. there's lots more selection in the smalls & LOADS of paleo options - i'll actually list those on the board this weekend.

then for sweets there's:
cupcakes - vanilla, lemon, grapefruit, red velvet, chocolate, chocolate-mint & paleo
snickers brownies
spicy brownies
maple walnut bars
hello dollies
breakfast cookies
goat's milk fudge

ok, i'm wiped. hope to see you over the weekend!

ps: i'll be at the market on canada day too - there's a big picnic, family fun day that was apparently a huge hit last year... i'm making special themed cupcakes :)

menu update

i just got home from catering a cocktail party for 120 people! it definitely interrupted my usual friday routine, but everything went really well & the feedback was fantastic.

i didn't add to my frozen stock this week but there is still a ton of selection:

beef shepherd's pie in small & large (i have small paleo versions)
moroccan meatballs in small & large (i have small paleo versions)
braised beef with roasted veg & polenta large (i have this one in a small, paleo, dairy free option)
chile pork with cornbread topping small & large
mediterranean vegetable ragu in small & large
jerk chicken in large
chipotle pulled pork in small
green curry, coconut tofu in small

there are four salads on the menu. it's so hard to know how many to make - two weeks ago i wasted a dozen & last week i sold out pretty quick. fingers crossed it's a good week.
flavour options are: beet, broccoli (not vegan but with vegetarian option), sweet potato & potato.

ok now i've gotta sleep.
see you tomorrow, & don't forget, i'm at the other end of the market near noggins & the dutchman.

market shake up

the entire market is being turned on its head...fantastic.

tomorrow will see all of the changes put in to place. i will be at the opposite end of the market from my beloved nook where i've spent the past 3 1/2 years. please bear with me as i get situated but i can imagine tomorrow morning will be a bit of a gong show... the rage is brewing.

my location isn't the issue, i think it'll be a pretty high traffic zone - the dutchman, laughing whale, maritime nut company, ironworks distillery & pretty much every nova scotia winery will be my new neighbours. my issue is the lack of space. i know right now i won't be able to bring as much frozen food or cupcakes with me as usual. COME EARLY!

it's sort of shame because i made a ton of frozen food this week. there are 3 new main courses & plenty of variations to suit all your dietary restrictions.

first up: beef shepherd's pie. this one is pretty much a staple of my menu but i shouldn't diminish its awesomeness. the beef is from getaway, the sauce is based on my bbq sauce & the mashed potatoes are loaded with cheesy goodness. they're all gluten free and i made up paleo versions with sweet potato mash (& no corn).

then it was on to moroccan meatballs. again the beef is from getaway; it's seasoned up with lots of fun spices, garlic, ginger & coriander. it's served in a tangy tomato sauce with citrus, olives, dates, roasted peppers, sumac & fennel seed with a side of toasted almond & harissa quinoa. they're all gluten free & dairy free and i made up a paleo version too with extra veg instead of the quinoa.

and finally, it was time for a new batch of mediterranean vegetable ragu. the ragu is jam packed with grilled vegetables - baby eggplant, zucchini, red peppers, red onions - in a marinara sauce with feta, parmesan, goat cheese & swiss chard. it's served with a side of quinoa dressed with olive oil, roasted garlic & basil. it's vegetarian & gluten free.

salads this week are sweet potato, broccoli & potato. the broccoli is back to normal so it's no longer vegan...but still delicious, gluten free & paleo. the potato salad & sweet potato salads are both vegan & gluten free.

as always, they're $5 each.

oh yeah, the blog has fallen by the wayside of late, but here's a recap of a really delicious dish that i recently made. i started off by making a smokey, slightly spicy chilli with kidney beans, peppers, chipotle & citrus. then i stirred in big chunks of braised getaway farm pork shoulder that i cooked in a tomatillo sauce. then it was topped with cornbread crumble with nuggets of cheddar cheese & green onions. the feedback has been pretty stellar for this dish & i think it'll become a menu regular.

ok i'm out. it's already past midnight & i haven't even picked out an outfit for tomorrow!!!

ps: i'm sorry if i'm a big grump tomorrow.
